2025 NFL Draft Top Quarterbacks

2025 NFL Draft Top Quarterbacks

The 2024 NFL Draft had lots of great quarterbacks. 6 Quarterbacks were picked in the first round, which tied a record. They were all chosen within the first 12 picks.

Now, it seems like the 2025 class might not be as good. But there are still many interesting options. Here are the top 5 quarterback prospects to keep an eye on as we start scouting for the 2025 NFL Draft this summer.

1 Shedeur Sanders, Colorado

Shedeur Sanders is really good at throwing the ball when there’s no one around him to mess things up. Last season, he had the third-best grade for this in the country, with only two other players doing better: Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, who were the first two picks in 2024.

Sanders also did a great job at avoiding mistakes. His rate of making plays that could lead to turnovers was really low, ranking fourth among all college quarterbacks.

2 Carson Beck, Georgia

Carson Beck might not be as guaranteed of a great player as Caleb Williams was last year, but he’s still looking like the favorite to be the top quarterback in 2025. He’s really good at throwing the ball accurately and at just the right moment. Last season, he was in the top five in the country for both making accurate throws and deciding when to throw. Overall, he had the fourth-best grade among all quarterbacks in the country.

3 Riley Leonard, Notre Dame

The guy who used to play for Duke will now play for Notre Dame instead of Sam Hartman this year. He’s good at making big plays by throwing the ball far and running fast. Since 2022, he’s run for 1,164 yards, which is the eighth most among quarterbacks in big conferences. But he needs to work on throwing the ball accurately because he hasn’t scored very high in passing for the last two years.

4 Quinn Ewers, Texas

Quinn Ewers still has some learning to do, but he got a lot better in 2023. He made a lot fewer mistakes with the ball compared to 2022, and his passing got a lot better too. Before, he didn’t score very high in passing, but now he’s doing much better with a grade of 85.6.

He’s got a strong arm, but next season, he’ll have to do even more for the team because some of their best players like Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, Jonathon Brooks, Ja’Tavion Sanders, and Jordan Whittington are now playing in the NFL.

5 Tyler Shough, Louisville

One of the more intriguing quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft is Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough who has all the traits to hear his name called next April if he can stay healthy. Unfortunately, that has not been easy for him to do though as he has missed significant time each of the past three seasons.

This past season he was only able to play in four games due to a lag injury. He was also limited to a combined just 12 starts over the 2022 and 2021 seasons due to injuries. When healthy though he has looked impressive and is someone who could hear his name called next April. During his 15 starts at Texas Tech, he completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,922 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also was a threat on the ground rushing for eight touchdowns and 432 yards in those 15 starts.

His top trait as a pro prospect is his arm strength. He throws one of the pretty deep balls in college football, and with Louisville looking to emphasize the vertical passing game this year he should be able to consistently challenge defenses. His arm strength also allows him to throw when outside the pocket which is something he will be asked to do this year with how often the Cardinals will be running RPOs this season. Another positive is that he is a very mobile quarterback for someone 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds.

The biggest issue with Shough entering the season is obviously his health. The fact that he has not been able to be a starter for at least half a season makes counting on him for an entire season a risky proposition. Another concern with him is he has had his share of turnovers. He only has a two-to-one touchdown to interception ratio throwing 17 career interceptions and just 34 touchdowns. He also needs to do a better job of protecting the ball when in the pocket or when flushed from the pocket having fumbled the ball ten times during his college career.
